In order to reload their backfield, the Chiefs signed former Oakland Raiders running back DeAndrew Washington according to NFL Network’s James Palmer.
“The #Chiefs announce the official signing of RB DeAndre Washington. I still completely believe they’ll get another RB in his draft. When, I’m not sure, but it’ll be something to keep an eye on.”
In four years with the Raiders, Washington recorded 1,735 yards.
Washington is a former fifth-round pick out of Texas Tech. In 2019, Washington finished with 387 rushing yards and three touchdowns along with 36 receptions for 292 yards. It was his best season since his rookie year.
Even with the signing, the Chiefs are still expected to draft a running back in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs are linked to two different running backs.
According to Kiper, the fans in Kansas City can continue to rejoice. Kiper believes the Chiefs are going to take running back D’Andrew Swift out of Georgia.
At the NFL Combine, Swift ran a 4.49-second, 40-yard dash. In 2019, Swift ran for 1,218 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He added 24 receptions for 216 receiving yards as well. He possesses one-cut ability with a downfield speed that can hamper opposing team’s defenses.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Chiefs are primed to take Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins. Dobbins rushed for 2,003 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019. The Chiefs have Damien Williams listed as the No. 1 running back, but haven’t had a clear face at the position since Kareem Hunt departed.
