Although the Cowboys are having a problem with their wide receivers, Jerry Jones, team owner, isn’t worried. He expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to contend with the other weapons.
CeeDee Lamb is the only wide receiver to have caught a pass from Dak Prescott, with James Washington having sustained an injury and Michael Gallup still healing from his ACL tear. There have been calls from the team to sign a veteran wideout in order to fill the gap in their experience and depth at the position.
Jones, however, doesn’t think it is necessary. He says he enjoys the things he’s seen from the team so far.
“I feel just like I felt the other day. We saw our wide receivers do some good things out here today. I like (KaVontae) Turpin,” Jones said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
It’s not just Jerry Jones that is concerned about wide receiver situations. Dak Prescott, Cowboys’ QB does not see it as a problem but an opportunity for other players to step in.
“You’re never going to catch me looking at anything in my life as a step back. You’ve got an opportunity to move forward, you’ve got an opportunity to grow. If you don’t do that, you’re in trouble and you’ve already lost to begin with,” Prescott said. “I just know, the young guys that we’ve got, the guys that we already have are going to step in and take on bigger roles. I continue to say exciting, but that’s what it is. And the reason is, is because I feel like a lot of you — and people don’t know necessarily — what these guys are, what these guys can do.”
It’s great to see Jones and Prescott put their trust in the Cowboys, even though it is easy to see the concerns of fans. The team has suffered a serious blow after the departures Amari Cooper, Cedrick Wilkins, and Malik Turner.
However, Prescott and Jones will be reassured by the Cowboys’ receiving crew.
