Jimmy Garoppolo, a veteran quarterback, and the San Francisco 49ers offense will be facing off against Trevon Diggs-led Cowboys secondary in the NFC wild card round.
In his second season with the Cowboys, Diggs enjoyed a very successful regular season. Although he allowed a lot of yards in coverage, his excellent ball-hawking skills played a key role in Diggs’ 11 interceptions season that also featured 21 passes defensed.
Diggs’ outstanding play earned him a spot on both the 2022 Pro Bowl team and the 2021 AP All-Pro First-Team.
Garoppolo was impressed by Diggs’ progress over the season. He also believes that Diggs will face a lot of challenges in the upcoming NFC wild card clash. This was something he spoke about during a press conference before the game.
“He’s talented,” Garoppolo said. “He’s good in that back end. Trevon really just tracks the ball really well. I mean, you could tell that he used to play receiver. He could make some great plays on it.
“But, their whole defense, they’re pretty skilled across the board, got some big time players and it’ll be a good challenge for us.”
Diggs was last seen facing off against the 49ers during the 2020 season. The Cowboys won the regular season by a score of 41-33. He was the second-year cornerback and allowed only two completions while covering the game. His passer rating of 47.9 was also allowed.
These two historic franchises will have a lot on the line this week.
