According to David Lombardi, an NFL insider and The Athletic, the former Michigan star will need surgery. He is expected to be out for the rest of the 2022 season.
Hurst, who had four years of college experience with the Wolverines between 2014-17, was selected by the Oakland Raiders as a fifth-round draft pick in 2018. After his third season, Hurst was waived by the Raiders. He signed a one year contract with the 49ers before the 2021 season.

Hurst was injured and spent most of the season on the injured reserve due to a calf injury. He only appeared in two games and was involved in two tackles.
Before this latest injury, the 27-year-old veteran had been taking starting reps at training camp. Arik Armstead, star defensive tackle, will miss at least the next few weeks due to a knee injury.
