The Dallas Cowboys still need to make a few roster changes to be in a position to make a deep playoff run. The good news is that there are still plenty of veteran talent available in free agency.
TheĀ Buccaneers defensive lineman, is one player that the Cowboys should consider signing. The Cowboys may need more edge rushers to replace Randy Gregory. They also might need to strengthen the middle of their defensive line to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Suh’s resume shows his achievements, including being a five time Pro Bowler, three times All-Pro player, and playing a crucial role in the Bucs winning Super Bowl during the 2020 season. Although Suh may no longer be a star defensive lineman, he can still play a vital role in a defense rotation for a contender.
Suh started all 17 of 2022’s games with six sacks and 27 tackles. He also had 13 quarterback hits, a fumble recovery, and thirteen sacks. Although the imposing pass rusher received a poor 49.4 grade by Pro Football Focus last season, he is now two years away from receiving a 69.6 overall and a 74.3 run defense score in 2020.
Opponents are not afraid of the Cowboys current rotation at the middle end of the defensive line. He was the No. 58 pick in 2019 NFL draft. There is no guarantee that he will make it to the final roster. Carlos Watkins, Quinton Bohanna and Neville Gallimore are all expected to play a key role in the Cowboys’ defensive tackle rotation. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell explained why Suh remains one of the most valuable free agents.
āSuh might not be the two-way force we saw during his time with the Lions, and the Bucs were careful to reduce his snap rate down from 77% in 2019 to 63% this past season, but heās still a reliable interior disruptor,ā Barnwell wrote on May 12, 2022. āThe man just doesnāt get hurt; Suh hasnāt missed a single game due to injury as a pro across 12 campaigns.ā
If the Cowboys decide to enter the Suh sweepstakes, they will be up against other teams. 247Sports’ Brad Stainbrook reported that the Raiders (Browns), and Bucs are all interested in signing Suh for this offseason.
Stainbrook stated that the Browns had expressed interest in Ndamukong Suh, a five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman, at times during this offseason. According to TheOBR.com, Suh is interested in teams like the Browns, Raiders and Buccaneers.
Due to the Cowboys’ salary cap restrictions, Dallas has been unusually frugal in this offseason. Gregory was not wanted by the front office. La’el Collins was released and Amari Cooper was traded to Cleveland. Suh signed a $9 million, one-year contract with the Bucs in the offseason. However, it is unlikely that he will find a comparable deal in 2022.
Pro Football Focus predicted that Suh would sign an offseason, one-year contract worth $5 million. The Cowboys currently have $10.8 million in cap space per Spotrac. This would allow them to sign Suh and other key players.
