Rumours linking Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the head coach vacancy at Texas Christian University didn’t last long.
Moore is no longer a candidate to the Horned Frogs’ head coaching job,” Drew Davison () and Clarence Hill () wrote Monday.
The 33-year old was first to be linked to the post last Wednesday, when 247Sports’ Chris Hummer stated that TCU had reached Moore’s representatives.
Moore played for the Cowboys between 2015-17. He has been a Dallas coach since 2018, first as a quarterbacks coach, and then as an offensive coordinator for the last three seasons.

Moore was a dream hire for TCU, but it didn’t seem to make sense. Moore is considered a rising star among the NFL coaching ranks. As long as the Cowboys win and Moore’s offense continues to perform, Moore should be a top-tier coach candidate for the pro team.
Moore was previously interviewed last year for the Philadelphia Eagles head coach job, but Nick Sirianni was hired instead.
Moore is currently in his second season as Dallas’ OC. Moore was asked Monday about open college football head coaching positions and his name being mentioned there, according to a Tweet by Jon Machota from The Athletic. Moore quickly dismissed all speculations and stated that he is happy to stay in Dallas.
Moore replied, “No, not one inch,” when Moore was asked if he had been in talks with schools. “I don’t worry about that stuff.”
Moore, who was a Boise State quarterback and later in the NFL with the Cowboys/Detroit Lions, was mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Gary Patterson at TCU. He’s reportedly now out the mix for that opening, and is expected to instead pursue opportunities in NFL after the 2021 season.
Moore, now 33, was discussing with Boise State his alma maternity last offseason to be the Broncos head coach. However, he decided to leave the candidate list and remain with the Cowboys.
Moore finished his Cowboys playing career in 2017, and he quickly moved into coaching, becoming the Dallas quarterbacks coach for 2018. In 2019, Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator of the team.
Moore’s offense is a sensational success this season. It leads the NFL in yards per game with 434.3 yards behind quarterback Dak Prescott. Current Cowboys standings are 6-2 and first in the NFC East. Dallas will be back in action against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, following a loss of 30-16 to the Denver Broncos.
