The Dallas Cowboys’ rookie linebacker Micah Parsons is everything they hoped for when they picked him 12th in the NFL Draft. Parsons has been a key player in the Cowboys’ enhanced defense and gave the unit a spark. Parsons now has a hip injury. However, the Cowboys believe it to be not serious according to Jon Machota, The Athletic.
Machota stated that Parsons’ hip started to bother him during Thursday practice. Parsons’ injury was not serious, but the Cowboys expect him back to play on Sunday.
Parsons’ injury was not serious, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy stated via Machota.
Parsons’ rookie season saw him play 12 games, with 72 tackles, 16 tackles loss, 10 sacks and 25 quarterback hits. He also had two forced fumbles and two passes defensed. Parsons has served as both a defensive end and linebacker and his ability switch between the two positions has proven invaluable on Cowboys’ injured defense.
Parsons will be returning to linebacker after sustaining injuries. Two Cowboys defensive ends are also back from injury.
DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory, Cowboys pass rushers, will soon be back from injury. This means that Parsons won’t be able to take as many snaps at defensive end. Although he did a fantastic job in that role, he will now return to the linebacker position that he was drafted for.
Parsons is aware that even though he has moved back to linebacker, there will still be opportunities for him all across the defense. Parsons is eager to seize the opportunity to play defensive end whenever it comes.
“I know that I won’t get 60-70 snaps at the (DE),” stated Parsons. “But I have to make the most out of my 10-15 snaps at rush, when they do come up, I will be able to use them well.”
The Cowboys currently sit at the top in the NFC East with a record of 8-4. Dallas must finish strong with five remaining games, four of them against NFC East rivals. Parsons stated last week that he wanted to finish the year strong and set lofty goals to help the Cowboys.
Parsons stated, “The Super Bowl, playoffs. You got five games left.” There’s a lot to do… I don’t think it’s right for me to just sit there and eat Cheetos. I want to accomplish something far greater than anyone thought possible this year.
