Cowboys QB Dak Prescott loses key weapon for rest of season

With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Dallas Cowboys will be without one of quarterback Dak Prescott’s main targets. Wide receiver Michael Gallup tore his ACL on Sunday in a 25-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and is set to miss the rest of the season and the postseason.

In the second quarter vs Arizona, Gallup hauled in a 21-yard TD pass from Prescott, only for his knee to buckle as he hit the ground in pain. The Cowboys wideout proceeded to walk off the field and into the tent, but he was clearly in serious discomfort. Dallas owner Jerry Jones said after the game that it was feared Gallup tore his ACL. Unfortunately, it’s a sad reality.

Gallup isn’t one of the Cowboys’ best WR’s, but he is valuable. The 25-year-old has 35 catches for 445 yards and two touchdowns this season. Prescott even voiced how tough it was to see Gallup limp off in so much pain:

“It was tough, very tough,” Prescott said, via ESPN. “Coming in at halftime and going to see him, just unfortunate. A guy that I love. Can’t get a better teammate than MG. Sick about it.”

The Cowboys used Cedric Wilson in place of Gallup after the injury. He’s clearly a huge part of the whole identity of their wide receiver room, but Dallas and Prescott have more than enough options  to get by with the likes of CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper. Mike McCarthy’s squad will be looking to roll into the playoffs on a high note with a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 18.
