Going into the draft, the Chiefs knew that protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a priority. The team did exactly that by drafting TCU offensive tackle Lucas Niang with the No. 96 overall pick.
Fans should be thrilled with this pick. According to Pro Football Focus, Niang has 975 pass-block snaps since 2017 and has allowed zero snaps.
Niang is 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds. Scouts say that Niang has a “tremendous” athlete with perfect athleticism that will match his large frame. All in all, he has potential to be a starter during his rookie season.
According to reports, the Chiefs prefer to use Niang at guard instead of tackle. For now, the Chiefs have Mitchell Schwartz. By placing Niang at guard, it would allow him to play right away, rather than sit behind Schwartz.
