The Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver Michael Gallup this offseason to a $57.5 million five-year contract. They knew he was recovering from ACL surgery.
Gallup tore the ACL in the penultimate match of the regular season, January 2. He has had surgery since then and is currently undergoing rehabilitation to be able to return to the field.
Mike McCarthy, Cowboys’ head coach, said Tuesday that Gallup is doing “very well” during his recovery. Dallas will soon be able to establish a timeline that will determine when Gallup will debut in the 2022 season.
He’s not expected be available for Week 1 at this time.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said WR Michael Gallup (ACL) is “doing very well on his rehab. …Once we get to training camp, we’ll get a tighter view on when he will be available.” Expectation remains Gallup won’t be ready to be full go in Week 1, likely missing start of season.

Gallup was a third-round selection in 2018. He had a great second season. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark, and caught six touchdowns. Gallup followed that up in 2020 with 843 receiving yards, five touchdowns and five more scores.
Gallup was limited by injuries last fall. He finished the season with just 445 receiving yards and only two touchdowns from 35 catches. Dallas is clearly betting on his future and gives him $11 million annually for five seasons after a major injury.
Gallup was also chosen by the Cowboys over Amari Cooper who they traded to cap relief. Gallup will return as the No. 2 wideout for the Cowboys when he is healthy. CeeDee Lamb is the top-ranked wideout.
