Cowboys fans may be shocked to hear that their 79-year old owner, a former Arkansas Razorbacks player, was in an accident. However, his injuries are not life-threatening. Jones is the Cowboys’ long-serving owner, having been with the team since 1989.
Jones had a busy week, with the NFL Draft occurring just one week before his accident. Jones accidentally revealed the Cowboys top-34 draft board ranking. This is a moment Jones may not want to retake. According to Jones, who made the mistake during Jones’ press conference, the two highest-ranked players in Dallas were the New York Giants.
Jones was explaining to the Cowboys why they chose Tyler Smith as their first round draft pick. He then grabbed a sheet with draft board ratings that he claimed he had printed ahead of the draft. Jon Machota, the Athletic ‘s , saw the list. He was able to compile the Cowboys’ predraft rankings for round one. This revealed insider information that would normally not be available to the public.
The list Jones presented seemed to support his claim that Smith was always at the top of Dallas’ drafting priority. Although there aren’t any major surprises in their rankings, Dallas may have preferred to keep their drafting priorities private for future business dealings.
