The Dallas Cowboys now have the NFL draft behind them. They can focus on the details when it comes to free agency and roster building.
As some veteran players have waited for the NFL Draft to end, there is still plenty of high-quality NFL talent available in free agency. NFL teams are likely to make moves now that May is here.
Dallas needs to address the issue of linebacker placements and it seems like a good idea to add them. Leighton Vander Esch was resigned by the team, and Jabril Cox is also there. However, the depth of the position is not sufficient. Parsons’ best performance is when he is lining up at multiple positions and not just LB.
Anthony Barr was a Minnesota Vikings star in defense and became a household name. The linebacker, now 30 years old, doesn’t know what he will be doing next year.
Barr could be available at a reasonable price due to recent injuries. If they can make a deal, Barr would make a great pick-up for Cowboys.
Barr was drafted ninth overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact in his rookie year with 70 tackles, foursacks, and two forced fumbles.
The next phase of Barr’s career was with the Vikings. Barr was a Pro Bowler in four straight seasons, from 2015 to 2018. PFR shows how the now-twenty-year-old linebacker accumulated 9.5 sacks and forced five fumbles. He also swat 19 passes.
After another productive season in 2019, but no honors, Barr tore the pectoral just two games into 2020. He missed the majority of the year. Barr then injures his knee in 2021, and misses six of 17 games. It appears that Barr has an injury bug.
However, he did manage to record three interceptions and 2.5 sacks over the course of 11 games. Barr is a great addition to the weak-side linebacker position. He can rush the passer but can also drop in coverage.
Barr’s injury concerns are concerning, but it could be worth taking the risk for Cowboys. Barr would be a great addition to the linebackers in Dallas.
Spotrac first and foremost states that the Cowboys have $13.4million in cap space. The majority of this money will go to signing Dallas’ selections for the 2022 NFL Draft and there UDFA class.
Barr would have to be signed by the Cowboys for $5-6 million per year. Barr signed a one-year contract with the Vikings in 2021 and was paid $10,000,000 according to Over the Cap.
Dallas will not be able sign Barr in free agency if that’s Barr numbers. Barr doesn’t yet have a team. This implies that there is some discrepancy between the salary he wants and what other teams are offering.
It’s not known if Barr is going to be moving or if anyone’s interested. However, the Cowboys should be alive if the price and timing are right.
