Proposed Trade Sends Cowboys QB to Seahawks for ‘Slippery’ RB

Sometimes, a trade can be the best way for two NFL teams to address their needs. The Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks could offer each other a helping hand during this offseason.

Both Seattle and Dallas are in very different places. The Cowboys are currently in the middle of Dak Prescott’s career as a franchise quarterback, while the Seahawks have lost Russell Wilson, their franchise quarterback, after ten years. Many people expected Seattle to draft a QB, but the Seahawks chose to make improvements.

In March Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari speculated that Seattle’s quarterback room might change in the coming year. According to Michael-Shawn Dugar , Drew Lock and Geno Smith will be competing for the job of starting quarterback.

The Cowboys have a number of backups in Cooper Rush and Ben DiNucci, who could be great option for Seattle’s QB market. Rush’s surprising performance in Week 8 last year may make him an interesting option. Rush was 24 of 40 for 325 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in that game on the road against Minnesota Vikings on Oct 31.

Seattle could get Rush in return Dallas’ head coach Mike McCarthy stated that the team needed a punt returner. McCarthy stated that player acquisition does not stop. “That’s certainly something we have to answer,” Michael Gehlken, The Dallas Morning News tweeted May 13.

DeeJay Dallas will return kicks for the Seahawks. He has also carved out a niche as an offensive player. Dallas returned 33 kicks for 764 yards in 2021 while also running 33 times and catching 21 pass.

Rush and Dallas aren’t big-name players so the fan base of each side may not be familiar. Rush, who is 28 years old and in his athletic peak, is entering his sixth NFL season. Dallas, on the other hand is entering his third NFL season at 23 years.

Rush’s appeal lies mainly in his only NFL start. He was an undrafted free agent in 2017 and signed a rookie contract with Dallas . He appeared in five games, with no starts until 2020.

Rush was given his chance in Week 8 against Vikings after Rush sustained an injury to Prescott in 2021. The Cowboys won 20-16 thanks to Rush’s impressive debut as a starter. He had a 92.2 quarterback rating.

DeeJay’s appeal is centered on his special-teams abilities as a returner. However, he also has the potential to be a weapon in the Cowboys offense. In NFL.com’s draft analysis, the 2020 fourth-round selection was called “slippery”. He is as versatile and versatile as any offensive player in the NFL.

Dallas has 490 yards total between his receiving and rushing capabilities. He also scored five touchdowns. Last year, he averaged 3.7 yards per run, 6.4 yards per catch, and 23.2 yards per rep.

In May, Michael Gehlken, a Dallas Morning News reporter, reported that McCarthy stated clearly that the Cowboys need to add a kick-returner and that “player acquisition” never ends.

“CeeDee Lamb ascended to starting flanker. Cedrick Wilson is on Dolphins. So, who will be Cowboys’ punt returner in 2022?” Gehlken tweeted on May 13. “Mike McCarthy: ‘As Stephen [Jones] says all the time, and it’s so true, player acquisition never stops. That’s definitely something we’ve got to get answered.’”

Dallas could that returner, while also playing a minor part in the offense. Dallas could still compete for the backup quarterback position with Grier and DiNucci. The Cowboys believe that Grier and DiNucci can both be good backups, despite only having attempted 97 passes between them.

Smith is an experienced player in the league but his ceiling has been set as a backup. Although Lock is unproven, he could be a great fit in a new place. Rush might be more appealing because Seattle has yet to land a franchise quarterback.
