While there are some who may doubt Elliott’s NFL career at this point, Dak Prescott doesn’t.
During Wednesday’s OTA session Prescott was asked his thoughts on Elliott and the quarterback stood by his backfield mate.
“Nothing ever changes for my expectations of Zeke, of who he is, how he leads this team, how he approaches the game,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“When Zeke is healthy, I don’t think there is a better back.”
Elliott’s health has been a problem the past two seasons. His 2020 season was marred by a calf injury that limited his production. In 2016, Elliott, the 2016 first-round selection, also suffered from chest and knee problems.
Elliott managed to play in all 17 of the 2021 games, running for 1,002 yards with 10 touchdowns. Tony Pollard, the backup quarterback, outran Elliott by more yards per attempt. He often looked more efficient back than Elliott.
The Dallas Morning News reported today by Michael Gehlken that Elliott’s contract will be reviewed by the Cowboys this offseason. Although they could cut Elliott and absorb a cap hit up to $11.86 million for him, Dallas is more likely to restructure Elliott’s contract to keep him.
