Dak Prescott opens up about national anthem protests

We now know where Dak Prescott stands in terms of the national anthem.

No pun intended, but he may not be doing a whole of standing.

On Wednesday, Prescott was asked about his thoughts on players around the league standing or kneeling for the national anthem. He had this to say:

“It’s about expressing yourself,” Prescott said, via USA Today. “I wouldn’t say it’s going to be about expressing one idea. That’s where we are as a country right now. Individuals have different thoughts, different perceptions and different feelings than their neighbor. So for you to force your opinion and your perceptions on somebody I think isn’t very important right now.”

Prescott cited that the USA is a country of freedom and that allows us to express ourselves in various ways.

“That’s what this country is about the freedom to do that, the freedom to express yourself. As we heard Mr. Jones talk about grace and sharing grace and having grace with players in what they want to do. If I had it my way, that’s exactly what we’d do: Express ourselves individually but love and support one another collectively.”

This all comes after owner Jerry Jones wanted a “compromise” last week.

According to reporter Emmanuel Acho, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he would support players who kneel and that it has nothing to do with respecting the flag.

However, Jones is not sold on that.

Last Tuesday, Jones said he wants to find a compromise with his players in regard to the protests. He would prefer to implement a policy in which the team kneels before, but not during the anthem.

When talking to 105.3 The Fan, Jones had this to say:

“That’s fair. That, at the end of the day, was a recognition that we supported our players,” said Jones. “I knelt with our players, as you know, on a personal basis. But as a team, we all knelt together before the anthem and then we stood for the anthem to recognize what its symbol is to America. I thought that was good. That’s the kind of thing we’ll be looking to see if we can implement.”

It will be interesting to see what happens when the Cowboys open the season on September 13th against the Rams. on Sunday Night Football.
