The Dallas Cowboys provided an update on the potential recovery timeline for Dak Prescott. This indicates that Prescott could be back by Week 5 against Washington. Prescott’s return timeline has changed from the original estimate of 6-8 weeks before surgery to 3-4 weeks after his successful thumb operation.
Prescott sustained a fracture in his right thumb during the season-opener against Tampa Bay. He required surgery.
Stephen Jones, Cowboys executive vice-president, shared the most recent Prescott recovery news from Cowboys’ front office on Sunday. It indicated that they are seriously contemplating bringing back their star quarterback by Week 5.
“He’s got a chance maybe the third or fourth game. We’ll see what happens,” said Jones via a radio interview with 105.3 The FAN.
Initial confusion arose about Jones’ suggestion that Jones meant the third week or fourth of the entire season. Jones clarified his remarks by saying that Jones used his injury from Week 1 to start that timeline. Prescott could return by Week 5, against the Washington Commanders, and by the next Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Dallas offense got off to a great start in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Cooper Rush took over starting duties and led Dallas’ first touchdown on a pass from Noah Brown, his first NFL score.
Dallas held the Bengals to a field goal on the Bengals’ first drive. They then completed the second drive with a touchdown and led 14-3 at the half. This is a significant improvement from their opening week performance, when they were the only league team to score a touchdown.
