Dallas Cowboys Have Signed Veteran NFL Cornerback

The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back a familiar face.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have signed 12-year veteran and former Cowboy, Brandon Carr, to the team’s practice squad. Carr is eligible for the practice squad because the NFL waived its traditional rules due to COVID-19.

Carr has not missed a game in 12 seasons, starting all 192 possible contests for the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Ravens. Carr spent the last three seasons in Baltimore where he totaled 150 tackles, 29 passes defended, and six interceptions.

In his career, Carr has 21 interceptions and two returned for a touchdown. That goes along with his 138 passes defended and nine fumble recoveries.

Carr could provide depth at the position, especially if reports about Chidobe Awuzie turning into safety are true.

When Awuzie was drafted, an article by ProFootballTalk illustrated that Awuzie was potentially going to be converted into a safety. According to Gehlken, that switch is going to happen in the 2020 season.

“Cowboys are seriously exploring moving Chidobe Awuzie from cornerback to safety, sources said. That is one of the multiple position switches that could come on defense in 2020.”

The idea matches what PFT wrote two years ago. It looks like the plan is finally taking shape.

“The Cowboys drafted Chidobe Awuzie with a plan of playing him at safety, but he spent his rookie season at cornerback, starting six games. Awuzie has remained at corner this offseason, though the team has floated the idea of playing him at safety if they need help there.”
