The Dallas Cowboys are now guaranteed to make the playoffs. The Cowboys have secured a spot in this year’s postseason thanks to their 20-12 win over the Washington Commanders.
Dallas could have secured a playoff spot if they won against Jacksonville on Sunday. However, the Jaguars defeated them 40-34 in overtime. They needed the Giants to win to get their ticket.
New York was able to do just that as its defense made several important stops down the stretch Sunday night. Washington was able to make it down to the Giants’ 5-yard line in the fourth quarter, before quarterback Taylor Heineke lost his ball.
New York converted that stop into a field-goal, which would be the last points scored in the match. Washington would get the ball back in just over two minutes. However, their drive was halted at the New York 6-yard mark as they lost the ball on downs.
Since 2006-2007, the Dallas Cowboys has not been to back-to-back playoffs. Further, an NFC Championship game was not played since 1995, which is also the last Super Bowl win by Dallas.
With the loss to Jacksonville, Dallas dropped to 10-4 for the season. They will be looking to close out the season strong with a matchup against NFC East rival Philadelphia next week.
