NFL fans assumed that Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was going to be fired this season. Although that was true, it now sounds as though his job is safe.
Jerry Jones, on 105.3 The Fan, praised his coaching staff despite the Cowboys’ humiliation by the Bills last Sunday.
Jones has been so complimentary about McCarthy’s coaching that it is hard to imagine him changing the coaching staff, even if Cowboys lose in the playoffs.
“He’s coached three playoff teams in a row. I think he’s done an outstanding job,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I frankly said to the staff yesterday, ‘You got us in this spot to be as disappointed as we are about the Buffalo game. It’s your fault because y’all have done such a great job this year getting our team to have the expectations that we have.’ Part of the best part of our team this year has been the coaching staff.”

McCarthy won 40 games since becoming the Cowboys’ head coach in 2020.
Dallas has now qualified for the playoffs three seasons in a row, despite the loss last weekend. Most franchises would be proud of that achievement.
On Christmas Eve, the Cowboys and Dolphins will meet.
