Cowboys make deal with Texans for offensive lineman

With the NFL Trade Deadline looming on November 3rd, the Cowboys recently released defensive tackle Dontari Poe. With rumors surrounding names like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Jaylon Smith, the Cowboys went the minor league route by agreeing on a deal with the Houston Texans.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans agreed to send nose tackle Eli Ankou in exchange for a seventh-round pick. Ankou will not be available to play for the Cowboys until after this week because the deal is not official until Monday.

This will be the fourth team for Ankou this season. He started with the Browns, was waived in September, picked up by the Colts, waived again on October 17, and then picked up by the Texans. He played zero snaps for Houston.

Ankou is a Canada native and was undrafted out of NCLA in 2017. He was drafted by the Canadian Football League, but he elected to test the waters of the NFL instead.

Ankou was drafted by the Texans, but was released during the final wave of roster cuts before the 2017 season. He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and played nine games. He saw action in two games the following season.

In 2019, he was regulated to the practice squad, which led to him signing with the Browns. Last year, he played nine games, including two starts.

With a banged up offensive line, Ankou might have a chance to play a few games for the Cowboys.
