The Buffalo Bills have released veteran quarterback Matt Barkley ahead of Tuesday’s last 53-man roster deadline.
This QB release leaves Case Keenum, the primary backup, as the only reserve option. Josh Allen is the 2022 MVP frontrunner.

Barkley spent the last three NFL seasons in Buffalo as a backup quarterback. In five games in 2021, Barkley rushed for 197 yards and one touchdown.
Barkley did not throw a touchdown in three preseason games this year. He completed 34 of his 45 passes for 389 yard and one interception. During their preseason finale against Carolina Panthers, he also served as the team’s punter.
Barkley could be back on the Bills practice roster if he clears waivers this week.
