JuJu Smith Schuster was often there to watch from the sidelines, as Patrick Mahomes demonstrated his ability as a passer over the years. He is now able to see Mahomes’ magic on the field from the front row, and is still amazed at his world-class skills.
last week, the Chiefs held their mandatory minicamp of three days. It featured Smith-Schuster and Mahomes. Mahomes, who completed outside-the pocket throws to many of the new wideouts, was the main draw, as was to be expected.
Mahomes also passed a no-look pass on Tuesday, which received high praise from Smith-Schuster.

“Today he did the no-look pass and I just like (stunned),” Smith-Schuster said. “He got me and I was on the sideline. I guess everyone saw it, I thought I was the only one who saw it. But (Patrick Mahomes) got our linebacker (Willie) Gay and it threw him off, thinking he was going outside, but he went inside. It was just like, ‘Wow.’”
Smith-Schuster was able to watch as former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made several impressive passes and resisted pressure from the opposing defensive linemen during his time in Pittsburgh. Smith-Schuster will now be under a Kansas City quarterback, who has had great success doing that, though the versatile wideout might need to get used to being available at all times for one of Mahomes’ trademark no-look passes.
Mahomes and his company will next be starting training camp next month. This is where the former NFL MVP Award recipient will have an opportunity to establish early chemistry with Smith-Schuster.
