After an historic rookie season, Dallas Cowboys defensive linebacker Micah Parsons will be aiming for the stars in 2022.
Parsons spoke to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin and revealed that he wants to become the NFL’s new single-season record holder for sacks.
Parsons put together a memorable debut season last year. In 16 regular season games, Parsons logged 13.0 sacks. He was placed on the COVID-19/reserve roster ahead of Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles. His total of 2.0 sacks is less than Jevon Kearse’s record (14.5) for rookies with the most in a single season.
“Yeah, 15’s like the minimum,” Parsons said. “15’s what I wanna hit. But definitely 23 is that goal, to break the record.”
Parsons has a long way to go before breaking the record for most sacks in one season. It is currently held by T.J. Watt, Steelers outside linebacker, and Michael Strahan, Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end (21.5).
Parsons could easily break DeMarcus Ware’s record of 20 sacks per season (2008, 2008) in Cowboys history.
Parsons will receive a lot of support at the line-of-scrimmage this year. Dallas did everything possible to strengthen its front seven in the offseason. This included signing Dante Fowler Jr. to an one-year contract in free agency and Sam Williams, former Ole Miss defensive lineman.
