Last weekend, the Dallas Cowboys were eliminated from the NFL playoffs’ Wild Card round. Dallas lost 23-17 to the San Francisco 49ers. Drew Pearson, Cowboys legend who is also a Hall of Fame wide receiver, has harshly criticized quarterback Dak Preston.
“I was very high on Dak, really high about him when they first drafted. “I was thrilled about that,” Pearson stated about Prescott during Monday’s episode of The Zach Gelb Show. “Because he brought that winning attitude to Mississippi State, I believed he could bring it here. He is a great speaker, but it’s time to be more. Jerry Jones’ window of opportunity isn’t so wide at this point. You have to take the initiative.
“I’m just wavering now with Dak. I saw regression as the season went on — that’s a disappointment at $40 million a year. It’s not about the money, it’s about that player playing the position and not improving, declining in a year where we started out so well… We almost had the NFC East won in the first seven weeks. Then we started going downhill. A lot of it was on the offensive side of the ball, and a lot of it was predicated by the play of the quarterback.”
Prescott threw 254 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception in the 49ers loss. He was also sacked five more times. He was a former fourth-round pick from Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft. Prescott has thrown more than 22,000 yards during his NFL career, with 143 touchdowns passing and 50 receiving. He has also scored 25 rushing touchdowns.
Prescott has led the Cowboys through the playoffs three times since joining the league in 2016. Dallas has also missed three playoffs. Prescott is 1-3 in his three playoff berths. After losing to the Rams in Divisional Round, the Cowboys suffered their only loss in the Wild Card round of 2018.
Multiple Cowboys who were not able to reach their goal have called the Cowboys out. Pearson isn’t the only Hall of Famer who has taken a shot at Prescott.
Michael Irvin stated, “Every team that you look at, stars of the team showed themselves and played.” Your stars can’t play and you won’t win this game. Dak Prescott has a passer rating of 69. Ezekiel Elliott, 31 rushing yards. CeeDee Lamb, 21 yards in one reception
“They had the star players playing like role players. That’s why they’ve got their butts sitting at home.”
