The Dallas Cowboys gained some offensive firepower with the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. After the loss of Cedrick Wilson and Amari Cooper, it was crucial to add a receiver.
Jalen Tolbert from South Alabama is a pass catcher and could be a contributing day-one player in Dallas. The Cowboys drafted the receiver with The draft’s No. 88 selection. This was the Cowboys first pick that didn’t address the line-of-scrimmage.
As a rookie with Cowboys, Tolbert will have the opportunity to play a crucial role. He is a versatile player who can play in all areas of the offense, which is a plus for an offense that’s becoming more explosive.
Jalen Tolbert: “(Dak) called me a couple days ago. For a minute it was a surreal moment because I never knew quarterbacks would call prospects. It was awesome. We immediately connected on the phone.” They talked about Tolbert’s strengths, what he can bring to the Cowboys. https://t.co/XfRJsqA4MV

Kellen Moore, the offensive coordinator, and Mike McCarthy, head coach, had major roles in selecting Tolbert as his third-round pick. Robert Prince, wide receivers coach, also had an influence on Tolbert’s selection. They were not the only people who had an influence on the selection.
Jalen Tolbert said he had spoken with Dak Prescott in the lead up to the draft. The star signal-caller from South Alabama surprised the product and they discussed many topics over the telephone.
Tolbert described the moment as “surreal”. Prescott and the Cowboys’ newest receiver quickly connected, leading Tolbert to believe that Prescott would eventually make it to Dallas.
“We talked about my previous relationships with my quarterbacks. We talked about my strengths on and off the field,” Tolbert told the media. “Dak was asking me if he could put me at X by myself on 3×1 or if I could go to the slot in between CeeDee and Michael. All of it.”
Rarely do you see potential draft picks being called by players. Prescott felt that it was important to be involved. This makes sense, as there is a need for receivers.
Dallas had to draft a weapon. Tolbert is the No. 56 overall prospect in Dane Brugler’s rankings.
Jalen Tolbert and Dak Prescott seem to have found their common ground. For on-field success, it is crucial to have a good quarterback and wide receiver chemistry. Prescott is well aware of this.
The talented pass catcher had 3,140 yards and 22 touchdowns in his college career. The Dallas Cowboys have the opportunity to bring the two together for huge numbers.
