We know that Mike McCarthy has been Jerry Jones’ guy since the beginning. Back in January, McCarthy was hired right after a visit with Jones in his home. The quick move was highly speculated after completion.
From January to August, the Cowboys had some serious Super Bowl expectations. Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup were both 1,000-yard receivers. CeeDee Lamb was added in the first round of the draft. Some of the big names on defense were finally healthy. It was finally going to be time for the Cowboys.
However, flash forward to today, quarterback Dak Prescott was lost for the season, while Andy Dalton was knocked out with a concussion last Sunday. The defense ranks near the bottom of the league and has allowed 30 or more points in five of the seven games this season.
McCarthy is supposed to be “the quarterback whisperer,” but the offense has been outscored 63-13 by the Cardinals and Washington Football Team since Dak went down.
McCarthy’s long term future is under a microscope, but Jones appears to be ready to stick with his choice in McCarthy.
“Jerry Jones tells @1053thefan “I got my man” when asked about HC Mike McCarthy. Wanted someone that “in case you know what hit the fan” could stand strong,” tweeted Cowboys insider Jane Slater.
These echo the similar comments made by Jones’ son.
“I know we’ve got the right head guy for the job,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Monday. “. . . These things just take time. I know our fans are frustrated. We certainly understand the criticism that’s come our way. But we’ve got to go to work.”
We will see how warm, or colder, the seat gets after the team’s end result against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
