Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner, made quite a scene when he showed the media the draft board of the team last week.
Some media members questioned Tyler Smith’s selection in the Cowboys first round, but Jones later revealed that the Cowboys chose him over other offensive linemen.
Jon Machota, the Athletic’s Director of Sports, was able to examine the Cowboys’ board more closely and see who their top overall player is. Kayvon Thibodeaux from Oregon was the top pass rusher and he went to New York Giants as fifth overall.
Dallas will now be able to face him twice per year, since New York is also in the NFC East.
The Cowboys’ five best draft picks were Thibodeaux, Aidan Hutchinson and Garrett Wilson.
Because they were not in a position to take these players, the Cowboys did not end up signing them. After Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported , they weren’t able trade it up.
Jones might reconsider doing it again next year in the 2023 NFL Draft.
