Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys’ rookie linebacker, has been a lock for defensive rookie-of-the-year. Many believe that he is a good candidate in the race for defensive player-of-the-year. But fans went one step further Sunday when they chanted MVP chants. The chants were even more impressive at Washington Football Team’s FedEx Field.
Micah Parsons’ numbers this season for Dallas Cowboys are worthy of MVP chants. He turns heads as he moves around from one position to the next in order to assist the defense and reach the quarterback. Without a single shift in success, he has moved from linebacker and defensive end to linebacker.
Parsons wrote “Blessed”, and added a crying Emoji. “Y’all make my want to cry cowboys nation!”
He’s had a record 9.5 sacks, 16 touchdown passes (most in NFL), 10 tackles for loss (most NFL), and three forced fumbles (tied for the most in NFL).
Parsons will become the first player since Lawrence Taylor to win Defensive Player and Rookie of Year. Taylor is a Hall-of-Famer, and Parsons is on pace for the same conversation as the best players in the game.
Parsons’ two sacks today against Washington make him now have 12 sacks in 2021. 2.5 shy of the former Tennessee Titans defensive player Jevon Kearse’s rookie record (14.5).
This season, the Cowboys have had to deal with many injuries on the defensive side. Parsons has had to step up as a linebacker and play on the offensive line more than he did in the past. Dallas hasn’t been fully healthy for the majority of the season. Parsons excelled in this role. Parsons can now play at multiple positions during games, which allows him to confuse the offensive line.
Parsons’ Cowboys season has been a success, but he doesn’t want it to end. He wants to be able to do more than individual accolades. Parsons wants to see the Cowboys win the Super Bowl.
Parsons stated, “The Super Bowl, playoffs. You have five games left.” “There is so much to do… I don’t think it’s the right time to just sit there and eat Cheetos. I want to accomplish something far greater than anyone thought possible this year.
