Retaining top assistant coaches is one of the most difficult parts of sustained NFL success. The Jaguars reached out Tuesday to the Cowboys regarding coordinators Kellen Moon and Dan Quinn.
Dallas’ head coach, Mike McCarthy, addressed potential interest in his staff members during his presser.
“I think it needs to be fair to the candidate,” McCarthy explained. It also needs to be fair to the commitment that the candidate is a part of. If our guys are fortunate to have those interviews, obviously, you embrace that.”

Since becoming an offensive assistant during the Jason Garrett-era, Kellen Moore quickly rose to be a top coach prospect. After a long and distinguished career at Boise State, Moore was able to seamlessly transition from Cowboys backup quarterback to play-caller.
Dan Quinn has head coaching experience, and has enjoyed some success with the Atlanta Falcons. Quinn’s time in ATL was not a good one. But, Quinn’s stock has risen since he turned around the Cowboys defense. He also stepped in for McCarthy during the defeat of his former team.
The Jags reached out to a variety of teams to request interviews with assistant coaches after the firing of HC Urban Meyer. One of them is Byron Leftwich , a former Jacksonville quarterback.
