Jerry Jones could be eating his words soon enough.
Plan B was Andy Dalton. When Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury, the former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback led the Cowboys to a win over the New York Giants. Since then, the Cowboys have been blown out by the Arizona Cardinals (38-10) and Washington Football Team (25-3).
The week after Prescott’s injury, Jones told 105.3 The Fan that the team was “unlikely” in searching for another quarterback. Jones went on to say “we got our quarterback.”
Flash forward to two weeks later and Dalton had to leave Sunday’s game with a concussion. Even without the concussion, Dalton was playing like a last-place quarterback. In two games starting, Dalton has threw three interceptions.
Ben DiNucci, the team’s seventh-round pick in 2020, appears to be the starter for Sunday’s pivotal game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, fans across Dallas would love to see the team make a trade before the deadline.
That deal would include Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The veteran starter led Miami to a 3-3 start as the team sits in second place. However, Brian Flores was elected to bench Fitzpatrick in favor of the 2020 No. 5 overall pick in Tua Tagovailoa.
Of course, Fitzpatrick is heartbroken and wants to keep starting in the league. Could he start for Dallas and lead the team to potentially seven wins and an NFC East title.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes is on record as a believer.
The main issue is the offensive line. Four starters from last year are gone, and two backups are currently hurt. At this point, it doesn’t matter who is running the team because opposing teams are always going to have a pass rush.
Either way, keep an eye out for a potential trade rumor.
