In his first preseason game, Sam Williams, a Dallas Cowboys defensive end, had a “Welcome To the NFL” moment.
Second-round selection from Mississippi was flagged for roughing the passer during Dallas’ 17-7 defeat to Denver Broncos. The call was questionable to say the least.
Although it didn’t seem that Williams had hit Denver’s quarterback Brett Rypien illegally, we have seen the NFL prioritize protecting quarterbacks almost as much.
Williams learned this Saturday.

It’s hard to fault Williams here because it’s difficult to deny their natural aggression, especially when they’re a rookie trying for a mark early on.
Cowboys fans can only hope that Williams will not be flagged again in the future.
